A bit of an exaggeration, but the brooks around here are all now mostly rocks with just a slow flow of shallow water. The forecast keeps predicting heavy downpours from passing thunder storms but so far we haven’t seen it.  OTOH, now is a chance to see what lies beneath Murphy Falls. I stopped there thinking I’d shoot a naked waterfall.  Pretty close to that.

Often the rounded rock is hidden under a splash.  I enjoyed seeing the sloping rock completely revealed for a change.

Here’s the falls in wetter times from last August that I posted earlier this month.

  2. The water in the lower part of the first picture struck me as more like clouds or mist than flowing water.

The colors in the first photo are beautiful. The water seems wraith-like, or like a will-o-the-wisp: the “fool’s fire” that lures the unwitting deeper into the forest. Natural enough when falling from the rocks, the water transforms into ethereal fingers, reaching out as if in invitation…

    • One of the nice things about slower water exposures is the many interpretations viewers can have. I like that you saw two. We have a lot of ground fog this morning which I think can also qualify as will-o-the-wisp. If I ever see one of those fingers in a beckoning motion it will be hard to resist.
I was really pleased with the colors. Ordinarily they are not so evident.
