05.12.2019 A brief moment in time

A 20 minute drive up Route 202 into New Salem got me to the overlook just in time for this nice light before a cloud cover swallowed the rising sun for a few hours.  Eventually we had a sunny lovely warm day, but as the sun approached the horizon after this light show it disappeared behind a cloud bank.

  1. The good thing about boulders like this is that mowers can’t mow them down.

    • No and there is a line of several. But it does get mowed and tri,,ed so I have no idea if there are any wildflowers growing here or not. Maybe down below on the slope, but all I see down there is the trash people can’t take out with them.

My, you sure do live in a beautiful area! Nicely captured.

The boulder really caught my attention in this photo. It looks quite different than it has before: almost as though it’s sitting on a platform designed for it, like a sculpture. The bits of debris on the ground around it suggest a sculptor’s been at work. It’s an intriguing image.

    • When I first started making images here I tried to avoid the rocks and have the low down trees as the foreground. But they do add a nice bit of interest and I made this almost the subject of the photograph. There are two rows of rocks here-one for folks to sit on and/or not roll down the hill below and a second behind this point to stop cars coming in so they won’t park too close to the edge. Those I do continue to avoid because they are covered with initials. People!
Thanks for remembering the previous efforts.

Rock and clouds are having an interesting conversation, aren’t they? I’m working on a post about rocks, water and wood, and this relates to it.
