12.28.2018 Quabbin Spillway spillin’ away.

The last several years have seen the Quabbin Reservoir well below capacity.  See my previous post about the water levels.  Although I was housebound for much of the autumn, I was aware that we received a great amount of rain and this past Wednesday I went to the Spillway to see the water overflowing.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it spilling so spillingly.

  1. Tremendous! I haven’t seen it spilling like that in a long time. Thanks for sharing, and such a great image. Glad you’re up and about. Happy New Year.

    • I’ve been visiting the park for years just as I know you have too, James. I always am hoping to see some overflow and now we have some. Although I did not try it the other day, I am also looking forward to leaning over the edge of the bridge and capturing the flow of the river as it leaves the reservoir. Wednesday I think the front of the lenses would have been pretty steamy. Happy New Year to you too.

  3. And it’s been a long while since you spilled out into the landscape to record a scene like this.

  4. A lot of water there which is always a good thing to see- at least in my book. Nice pic too.

That first image is wonderful. The bridge and the water beneath it look like a keyhole. I can see you peering through it at all the wonderful sights that wait on the other side.

How thrilling is this spilling. Noisy, too?

I like that first image, Steve. The mist rising from the water, along with the color palette, create a really nice feel to the image. I always love being around flowing water, the sounds, the feel of the mist on your face, very relaxing.

Quite a scene, fine capture of the flows. Great to see that you’re getting out and about – I just made it up to Jacob’s Hill and Spirit Falls in Royalston. The flows were pretty good there as well.

  11. Wow, that is really dramatic. It is good to see so much water.
