As I mentioned yesterday, September flew by. Pretty sure I’m not the only one who felt that way. Lots of rain and unseasonable warmth that, I hope, will produce some nice color for the October foliage show. Another thing that comes with October is fog.

Grey, grey, grey today. 🙂 It appears that what we are about to receive came from your neighborhood. No complaints. After lack of water for several years in a row, I am always happy to see some more. If it never ends, well that’s another story. But we’ve had our share of nice days lately.

We had a nice thunderstorm last night. My daughter and I went to the bog yesterday and the grey skies were wonderful. I quite like a grey drippy day, only not when I’m in the studio. I know what you mean about the moisture. Illinois was droughty off and on for years, and the water level in our lakes and the bog had really declined. I even wonder if that contributed to the lack of oak regeneration we’ve been seeing over the past few decades.

I would guess that lack of water contributes to a lot of ecological distress.

Yes. We’ll get one impressive thunderstorm and people think, “no drought”, but they are missing the signs.

It’s funny when checking out the weather in the morning and seeing humidities approaching 100% because of the fog.

Fog can add such a great element to photographs, as you’ve shown here. Really nice views. I always like the feel of mystery I feel with fog. And also a sense of calm. Very curious to see what this fall/winter brings.

Thanks, Todd. I am eager to find out what our colors will be like. I have the third week of the month off for foliage photography and hope my timing will be correct.

Thanks, Bernie. We went from sweltering to cool almost overnight. Now we are still cool but a bit of a warm up on the way for the end of the week. It’s too early to fire up the wood stove.

Yep. That’s some serious fog you have there. The last several days here have resembled that but broken up by some pesky mountains. 🙂

Your hills and valleys really do allow for some wonderful photographs. When the fog rolls in here, there’s no way to get above it — at least, practically. People on the 45th floor of downtown office buildings sometimes get wonderful photos, but we flatlanders are denied such pleasures.

It’s too bad there are no mountains close at hand for you to get away to. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind some prairie to enjoy around here. There are some wide open locations in New England but they are hours away from here. We’ve got meadows which are great, but a horizon that goes on forever would be nice too.
