We’ve had a dearth of rain this year and brooks were all bones so to speak. More rocks than water. But this past week saw rain almost every day, sometimes a downpour sometimes a drizzle. It recharged the local streams and this past weekend I forewent flowers to pursue water.
The first place I visited has become a favorite after discovering it two years ago (discovering meaning the former property owner told me about it).
The upper section which has water most of the time.
And the next level down which more often is just a trickle but not this past Saturday.
More to come from both here and two other watery locations. 🙂

In the second picture, your signature almost looks etched into the rock.
Glad you got some rain. Here in Austin, yesterday’s predicted 40% chance lost its 4 and became 0% reality.

We’ve experienced a bit of Texas weather here this year…hot and not enough rain. Unfortunately we add humidity to that equation and it’s been a bit uncomfortable.

The top photo is probably my favorite which shows more of the beautiful rock and the whirlpool of water. You are fortunate to have gotten rain. We are in a drought with quite high daily temperatures here in central Texas As far as I know, most of the state is hurting for rain.

The world’s weather is definitely out of the ordinary. The worry is if it is the new ordinary or, even worse, morphing into something unfriendly to life on the planet.

I am afraid of that too. Have thought about that as well. Extreme weather can influence crops, health, ability to tolerate extreme heat or cold, and the list is long. Earth has been around for billions or millions of years so it is bound to end at some point in time. Could be in our life time or the next generation. I am not a doomsday prophet but those who deny climate change and possibility of super bombs are not living in reality.

It’s raining here as I write. I like the top image .. and, yes, the whirlpool really adds a nice touch. Forty-five peeps arrived this morning … I should have known that that arrangement would have guaranteed rain.

Back in the farm business, eh? We had light rain this morning with an intermittent shower and one short downpour. I’m thinking more waterfalls and cascades for this weekend.

No! Joanna and I agreed that we would limit ourselves to poultry – period – end of discussion. She keeps campaigning for a hog (or two), but I have not been moved. The roasters will be in the freezer in six weeks or so, and the turkeys won’t be ready until early November. Layers, roasters, and turkeys provide quite enough scope for work and worry for me.

It’s not often I find a swirl with the potential to make a good photograph and this one was a challenge. The bubbles and foam were moving quite fast and most of the images were just a white blur. But this one frame, at ISO 400/f/11/3.2 sec held together. All other exposures were too long for any definition.

I’ve never tried anything like that 3.2 sec, but I just did. I assume you were using a tripod? My results looked like I have Parkinson’s.

I actually am not a fan of swirls, but was looking for a different composition for the falls having shot it several times. And, knowing that others do enjoy swirls, I went for it. I’ve a couple of other rock shots from here and will share them another time.

Early morning is quite a special and often magical time. I really do prefer it over late in the day when the air is a bit polluted and has the smell of the day’s heat still lingering. Mornings are clean and fresh and, since most people don’t care for the Gingoldian hours, more peaceful. Most often I have the world to myself while shooting. I am glad that you got to enjoy some of it for yourself, especially with the Texas heat. Get out early and hide from the high temperatures later.

Like others, I really like that circular swirl, but if I scroll up enough to “crop” out the swirl, the image is just as pleasing. In fact, the rocks and falls seems to balance one another very nicely, and the rock detail seems more vivid: probably because of the tendency of the swirl to draw the eye.
Unlike other parts of Texas, we’ve had enough rain to keep things a bit green. The heat has meant the end of a lot of flowers, per usual, but in another month our “second spring” will start, and the fall flowers will appear. It’s been quite enough for me to work in the heat; I’ve not been making many forays into the great outdoor oven. But, I did manage one morning to get on the road at a Gingoldian time — 5:30! — and got some nice, dewy images as a reward. With today’s rains already making an appearance, I’ll spend some time to sort through and post a couple that I think are worth it.
