This scene is from a few minutes prior to my post the other day-“Oh, just another spectacular beginning to a day”. I enjoyed the shapes of the clouds over the mountains in this view to the north from New Salem as the sun was reaching the eastern horizon. The mid-range valleys are always appealing to me and quite often there are soft pink hues at a tangent to the sunrise.
The light is ethereal. Beautiful photo, Steve.

Lovely. I appreciate the clouds attempting that Hokusai Japanese-wave effect.

I like your Hokusai analogy.

I’ve mentioned my appreciation of Hokusai so am pleased that you see his influence in this image… not that I had any control over the clouds.

As much as I enjoyed the previous photo, I think I prefer the subtlety of this one. Softer, more pastel colors. And great atmospheric effects. Really nice!

A friend, and others I am sure, term the first a “nuclear” sunrise. I generally prefer subtle but have found the more colorful ones to be more popular. Thanks, Todd.

Instead of a belt, it looks like Venus is wearing a sash. The broad band of peachy-pink is a lovely bankground for the clouds.

Yes, a nice scalloped sash. The peachy-pink hue is often seen from here when looking to the north. There is probably some color science explanation and I should pursue that for the next time I post it or as a followup.

Wonderfully articulated silhouettes, each one a different subtle shade, and the tree shapes play well with the cloud shapes.

Thanks, Lynn. The clouds are what drew me in. I’ve shot this scene a few times with the same northern dawn color but the clouds offered something different…they remind me of powerful waves.

To a (currently) flat-lander, those mountains look mystical. I’m not sure I’d ever get anything done if I lived where I could see that!

This is about a 20 minute ride for me (not observing the speed limit) so I do go here often. Many times it is just for the experience of being there.
