It really hasn’t been all that cold this winter except for one spell when we hit single digits. Last weekend saw the teens a few times after a span of some days with a good 40° and lots of melting so finding ice formations to photograph was a little challenging. But there were a few opportunities here and there with some nice freeze/melt/refreeze effects.

It looks like a flower, or a sunburst, underneath those bubbles. One of the things I enjoy about your ice photos is that I often can’t figure out how the patterns were formed. It adds a little extra mystery to the beauty — always a good thing.

When there is a lot of freeze/thaw activity many layers will form. I think that is part of this along with all the bubbles. I am not sure I know how the streaks happened. It is fun to try to figure this out but most likely much is happenstance and in the same category as snowflakes.

I think you captured a photo of the earliest moments of the big bang. I see cosmic foam mixed in.

Very nice pic but I liked the one FB the best that looks like abstract art. But I’m nit knocking this one Steve. It looks a bit abstract as well.:-)

Funny how viewpoints can differ. I thought of this as everything emanating from the foam. It is possible that the foam was created by movement inward.

“Viewpoint” is the operative word. I was thinking strictly visually rather than causatively. Even then, I’d invoke what I’ve been calling The Duality Principle, according to which it makes as much sense to think of the elements in your picture radiating as converging.

Fantastic! Ice is of my most favorite photographic subjects but I am unable to travel to my beloved pond in Maine this year where I have devoted a great deal of time to ice photography. I will take great pleasure in enjoying your beautiful images!
