My goal with the vacation was to spend as much time as possible in the Quabbin watershed and, with a one day exception, that is just what I did. Here is one of a couple of images from that one day spent around town and, more specifically in this image, at Owens Pond.
As bucolic as this scene appears, the other side of those distant trees is loaded with homes and condominiums. But Amherst has done a nice job of conserving some of its land and Owens Pond is just one spot of several where one can find similar scenery.
Glorious. It is a great idea, to explore the watershed.

Of course, over the years I have spent much more time than I did in the one week, but it was nice to just concentrate there and see as much as I could. But, no matter how much time I put in there, I always regret that I did not find a way for more. 🙂

Oh, I can understand that. It is beautiful country.

I share that longing for yet another picture.

Nice depth to this one. Beautiful spot. I hope the water of the pond itself is somehow protected from the development nearby.

The development is distant enough that there is enough of a safe buffer zone. Amherst is pretty conscientious in protecting our resources.

Beautiful, and very hard to imagine there is so much development nearby.

Trees do a good job of hiding things, don’t they? 🙂

It’s always good to see areas that are able to provide some balance between expansion and conversation. Maybe images like this will help continue that. Nice work.

Thanks, Todd. I am fortunate to live in an area where conservation is seen as a positive.

I saw some lovely ponds on my trip, but every one of them was foggy and green. The effect is, shall we say, rather different. That makes it even more delightful to come home and find your reminders of the autumn season — where it looks like autumn’s “supposed” to look. What a wonderful week that must have been.

I agree autumn should look like autumn and, to be honest, I was quite surprised to find so many colorful scenes as our drought, which continues yet, had been expected to diminish the intensity. It was a very enjoyable week.

Looks like a great spot for a picnic and maybe a bit of a slow paddle in a small canoe.

Although I have witnessed neither, I agree and think that happens. OTOH, it is a popular dog walking spot, leashed and not, so there are hazards to be avoided.
