Is this Murphy or your new little boy?

    • It won’t be long, David. We got a call a short time earlier this evening that we will be fostering a beagle that is being surrendered directly to us. If all works out well, which we fully expect and will bring in a dog behaviorist if necessary, then we will adopt him. It is quite a coincidence that the call came in almost to the minute of Murphy’s passing anniversary.

      • Oh boy. That’s very exciting news. Congratulations. We will both keep our fingers and toes crossed. It’s been pouring buckets here ALL day. I feel a bit like canned tuna … cooped up in the RV.

      • Thanks. It is and we are excited. After a year without a dog, we have a lot of “dog-proofing” to get done in the next week.
We had light rain most of the day, but it is now pouring and will do so for a while they say. I am, fine with that…we need the rain. But, of course, I am not stuck in a noisy metal drum with a staccato melody playing endlessly.

      • You got it … both the noise and the fact that it cools down (and heats up) quickly suggest that these things have NO insulation. Live and learn.

      • Can you put a couple of dining canopies over it?

I can’t believe a year has passed. I still miss seeing Murphy, and hearing reports about him. It will be good to meet your new friend, and get to know him a bit through your posts. If the new one is half as sweet as Murphy, you’ll (all) be in great shape.

    • It struck me as we began negotiations with the previous adoption agency that we could end up adopting on the anniversary. I think I am glad that it didn’t quite work out that way.
We are feeling a building excitement about the new guy’s arrival. We think it will be this coming weekend. The agency will pick up the dog…his name is quite long but ends with Bojangles and will not remain…and bring him to us. Since no one has experienced him, they cannot have us adopt him outright. So we will act as a foster family until we get to know him. Hopefully it will work out and we will then adopt. All we know is that he is being surrendered because the current owner is away from him for 12 hours at a time, he weighs approximately 23 pounds and, she claims, is housebroken.

  5. Steve, your photo of Murphy is SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL IN B&W. I am so glad that you have these great photos of him. I hope you have made a print of this one and that it hangs in a prominent place.

Also it is strange how one dog replaces another. I truly hope that the new Beagle that is coming will work out for you. This is wonderful news.

    • When we lost Dixie, I made a collage of pictures of her. I have been unable to do the same for Murphy, but shall shortly.
We are feeling positive about him working out despite knowing very little. But when I took in Cassie, I knew absolutely nothing and she was a great dog. Why anyone abandoned her was a total mystery.

What a lovely portrait of Murphy. It’s a hug-able portrait. And how exciting to have a new dog coming soon.
