Now, back to our regular programming (the Canon 180 macro lens). When I walked in the woods Sunday, the first flower I saw was Sessile-leaved Bellwort- Uvularia sessilifolia aka Wild Oats. Actually there were hundreds of them all over the forest floor. They are small and, when mixed in with Canada Mayflower leaves and other larger plants it would be hard to make them out, so I concentrated on portraits.
I liked this one the best and framed it to what I hope is to a good effect.

A lovely floral portrait. I like the way the hanging leaf parallels and extends the line of the flower.
And somebody’s gotta say that you’ve gone back to sowing your wild oats.

Pretty indeed. I have been struggling with the many difficulties presented by top-down subjects like this Bellwort. You’ve managed to turn that difficult problem into a stunning image with nice feel to it.

Thanks, David. Getting this angle wasn’t easy. It helped having the confidence of my tick-treated clothing to lie flat in the leaf litter for a good half hour between trying compositions and waiting for the breeze to quiet.

This one’s perfect, in every respect. And, yes: that includes the framing. The image as a whole is so elegant — it’s like the Audrey Hepburn of floral portraits.

“The Audrey Hepburn of floral portraits” is a first for one of my images. What a comparison. I wondered if you would like the frame. I have been using a double off-white matting in my framing, but for images like this with a quiet light I think a dark mat enhances that quality.
