03.03.2016 The snowless Snow Full Moon

It’s always enjoyable to get out  and photograph the full moon rising on a warm evening over the Pelham Hills seen from Mount Pollux. But it is unusual when that warm evening falls on February 22nd. Each morning’s moonset or evening’s moonrise was accompanied by cloudy skies, but that gave me the opportunity to photograph something a little different.

Full-Snow-Moon-022216-960Spring is drawing nigh.  There will still be cold nights and the possibility of snow, but warmth is in our near future.  The weather has been even more unpredictable than usual, so who knows what we can expect.

The silvery moon gets all the good songs, but this golden moon is just as appealing. So are the clouds, for that matter. You must have enjoyed those warm temperatures.

    • Don’t forget the”Blue Moon of Kentucky”. I am torn between two loves- the moonrise as the sun sets which gives us this nice warm color and the setting moon in The Belt of Venus. Yes, I am now spoiled by the early spring temperatures. We are still getting down into the 20’s at night, but slowly rising through the 40’s again and may see 70° on Wednesday.

Viewing your beautiful full moon is always good. Yesterday, I saw the moon from a unique viewpoint almost 1 million miles toward the sun. This url captures the transit of the moon on 15 July 2015 from that viewpoint. http://epic.gsfc.nasa.gov/galleries/lunar_transit/vid.php

  4. Excellent moon rise. The colors are quite different from your usual sunrise. All you need in the photo is a lone coyote standing on a hill howling at the moon.

Wonderful – those clouds really make it.

  6. Yup. Thumbs up. Lyle is right … the clouds really do add interest. Really nice. Is your show this weekend? If so, the best of luck. D

    • The show runs from 3/1 through 4/29 with the first reception on 3/3 and the second on 4/7. The first had a decent turnout for an out of the way venue- @50% invited friends who probably won’t be coming to the second so that will be a less rewarding evening I think.
