02.25.2016 Throwback Thursday once again

When I woke this morning, the temperature was 60°F at 4 a.m. A little earlier we had thunder during our current rain event.  So I think this image from last September 29 along the Acadia N.P. coast line is appropriate for a memory of a similar weather mood.

Otter-Rocks-Fog-with-gull-092915-960Ironically, today’s low temperature will be at the end of the day. The times, they seem to be a’changin’. Not necessarily for the better and all this warmth and lack of snow pack will not be a welcome memory when we are short of groundwater later this year.  We will return to more seasonable weather this weekend but without any precipitation to cure our lack of snow.

    The gull is a delightful detail. Not only does it provide a sense of scale, it dispels any sense of desolation. This seems to be my year for being pleased by combinations of blue and brown. The one you’ve shown here is a particularly nice variation on the theme.

      Thanks, Linda.
      I made three frames of the scene and this was the only one with the gull. Apparently, the first click sent it packing. The colors are breaking the color wheel rules, but rules are made to be broken.
      Funny, both you and Yvonne used desolation in describing this and it’s a word I would not have chosen.

    Beautiful photo. I, of course love those large boulders and the lone gull gives the photo added dimension. In fact that lone gull looks a bit lonely. Overall the scene gives me the impression of desolation.

    60° at 4AM: it seems you were magically transported to Austin. You should’ve told me you were coming. Actually we were cooler than that at 4AM.

    Gorgeous image, Steve. It’s like being there. I can nearly feel the mist and smell the salt air!

    I’m very glad that you make at note of the weather in your posts. It would be nice if certain people in Washington would hop aboard the reality train about climate change.

      Thanks, I.K. I remember the sensations very well still even after these months have passed. As much as I enjoy where I live and rarely consider travel, I do enjoy and look forward to my trips to the ocean.

      Yeah, good luck with that. Disbelief is a litmus test for candidacy for any office these days. It’s right up there with non-compromise and and refusal to work together.

    This is a stunning photo, Steve. I love how the distance just becomes a vague presence behind the rock, and I’m impressed how you got the gull to pose in the perfect spot 🙂
