When I woke this morning, the temperature was 60°F at 4 a.m. A little earlier we had thunder during our current rain event. So I think this image from last September 29 along the Acadia N.P. coast line is appropriate for a memory of a similar weather mood.
Ironically, today’s low temperature will be at the end of the day. The times, they seem to be a’changin’. Not necessarily for the better and all this warmth and lack of snow pack will not be a welcome memory when we are short of groundwater later this year. We will return to more seasonable weather this weekend but without any precipitation to cure our lack of snow.
What a beautiful photo

The gull is a delightful detail. Not only does it provide a sense of scale, it dispels any sense of desolation. This seems to be my year for being pleased by combinations of blue and brown. The one you’ve shown here is a particularly nice variation on the theme.

Thanks, Linda.
I made three frames of the scene and this was the only one with the gull. Apparently, the first click sent it packing. The colors are breaking the color wheel rules, but rules are made to be broken.
Funny, both you and Yvonne used desolation in describing this and it’s a word I would not have chosen.

Beautiful photo. I, of course love those large boulders and the lone gull gives the photo added dimension. In fact that lone gull looks a bit lonely. Overall the scene gives me the impression of desolation.

Thanks, Yvonne. I don’t think it was too lonely as when I made the first frame it left. Or maybe I am just not its type. 🙂

Oh well, gulls aren’t really gullible and don’t stay in place unless they are on the receiving end of some discarded fish. 🙂

Gullible gulls…I like that, Yvonne. 🙂

I can’t be modest. I thought it sounded kind of cute. 🙂

I like that scene. Any way to get out there on the big rock? I’d be trying it.

I imagine a more limber and youthfully incautious person could do a hop, skip[ and jump onto the rock, Jim. I was using a telephoto lens which closes the visual effect of those gaps so if you try this sometime, you may wish to be wearing a wet suit. Plus this was at low tide so there’s that of concern as well.

Beautiful. All those rocks and fog remind me of our recent California trip.

60° at 4AM: it seems you were magically transported to Austin. You should’ve told me you were coming. Actually we were cooler than that at 4AM.

It didn’t last long, Steve. This morning it was 15° and my fingers froze. Rest assured, should I ever get even remotely close to Austin, you’ll hear about it.

Gorgeous image, Steve. It’s like being there. I can nearly feel the mist and smell the salt air!
I’m very glad that you make at note of the weather in your posts. It would be nice if certain people in Washington would hop aboard the reality train about climate change.

Thanks, I.K. I remember the sensations very well still even after these months have passed. As much as I enjoy where I live and rarely consider travel, I do enjoy and look forward to my trips to the ocean.
Yeah, good luck with that. Disbelief is a litmus test for candidacy for any office these days. It’s right up there with non-compromise and and refusal to work together.

I missed the scale of this one entirely … until I looked for the gull after reading some of the comments above. Nice shot. Pleasant color tones. D

Thanks, David. It was fortuitous that the gull was there. Sometimes ambiguity is a good element in a photograph, but I was glad it was in the composition for scale.

This is a stunning photo, Steve. I love how the distance just becomes a vague presence behind the rock, and I’m impressed how you got the gull to pose in the perfect spot 🙂
