What is a dirt parking area most of the year has been transformed by a few inches of snow and some rays of sunlight into a lovely landscape. I am sure that tomorrow morning this snow will be full of tire ruts and mud from the 40° we experienced today. But for a few hours this morning it was a peaceful snow field with brilliant warm light.
This morning I decided to order a canvas print of a Holyoke Range image rather than making my own print and then buying a frame for it. Here’s the photograph. They ship in three working days so I’ll have it in plenty of time for the town hall exhibit. Now I can concentrate on making a different print. I have plenty to hang, but I like to add a few new ones each time so there is work to do.

I haven’t sold anything there yet but I haven’t publicized it yet, either. I fear that my images might not be of good enough quality and am considering a better camera before I do more with it. However I bought something there and was very pleased with the print and its frame, and the quality of the packaging. There are several of yours I’m drooling over!

Gorgeous scene of the sun bursting through the trees. And I think the pic that you have sent for printing is spectacular. It’s a winner in my book with all of various colors and the one exceptional tree off to the right. It’s a refreshing scene that you have brought to life

Yeah, they aren’t usually all that attractive. At least this one does have a few trees within and surrounding it.
Thanks! I have an Epson 3800 printer that does a nice job of printing, but it is limited in the size with the maximum paper width being just 17″. Most of the time that is sufficient, but there are landscapes I’d like to do much larger so have to farm them out. I order frames online mostly. There are two local shops I use as well, but I do the matting myself.

Yeah, I got started in this whole digital thing after Kodak ruined one too many transparencies (actually just one is too many, but there were several and nature experiences are most often not repeatable). Having control of as much as possible takes a lot of time but is that much more satisfying.

The mathematically minded will appreciate the contrast between the parallelism of the trees and the divergence of their shadows. The eventual physical marring of the surface can be sad, but this virtual one offers the best of both worlds.

I like the way the bright streaks of cloud are echoed by the horizontal streaks of lighted snow. It’s easy to imagine that the same wind creating the clouds created the parallel patterns in the snow.

And I like your level of observation and imagination. The variety of lines and textures was part of what drew me to photograph this scene. The starburst was a little something special to “ice” the picture. Often side lighting is required to reveal the texture, but in this case the horizontal lines in the snow allow front lighting to do the trick.

You certainly capitalized on the fortuitous coincidence of the sunrise and the pristine parking lot. I would say that you’re lucky … what is it that they say … luck (fortune, or chance) favors the prepared mind (or, photographer in this case). D

Thanks, David. It was definitely a lucky occasion. The nice thing about this location is that there were quite a few spots to follow the rising sun from and this gave me the best starburst and shadow combination.
