02.01.2016 Hadley Sunrise

I only had a few minutes to be out this morning as we are having some energy improvements on the house today.  An assessment was done a while back and today is the day for the work.  I wasn’t able to get out yesterday as I was recovering from something I ate Saturday- I suspect the grill was not hot enough and whatever remained after wire brushing it did not get sterilized before the steak went on.  I have never been so dizzy and weak.  Still a little woozy at times.  So I wanted to make an image while I had some time.

The sky looked promising with some wispy horsetail clouds early on, but they dissipated as the upper air was moving them pretty rapidly and the horizon filled before the sun rose.

Still, a pleasant start to the day.

I hope you are feeling better. Dizzy and weak is not good.

Foggy here this morning. I can’t see 1/4 mile.

    • Thanks, I am. Nope, not good at all. It was bad enough that I expected to black out and not wake up. Thankfully I was wrong.

I am glad we did not have fog here too. It would have been much harder to come back home as early.

  3. The trees, the trees. Three to the left and four to the right/ You positioned your camera perfectly/ I do love those trees with the faint colors of sunrise in the background. I got food poisoning from eating a bean concoction that was too old. (joint pain, weakness, extreme dizziness) Don’t think I ever fully recovered from that as of three years ago. I do hope you are well very soon, Steve.`

    • I’ve done a couple of shoots here and haven’t quite got the sunrise I want so the quest goes on. It’s an active farm, mostly hay although sometimes corn, so the landscape is changing throughout the year.
It’s been a while since I had food poisoning. I once had it four times in one year. I suppose I should have known better about a few of the times, but on one occasion I was eating a plum and when I pulled the pit half way through there was a fungus. Ambushed.
I never trust old food any more although Mary Beth hates to waste it.
Some things just stay with us longer as we age. I hope it doesn’t impact your well-being too much, Yvonne.

  4. Pretty. I see that Jim is having fog this morning…we had heavy fog yesterday. Pretty great. I hope the work on your house goes well and that you are fully recovered.

  5. Sorry about the health issue, your photography does not seem to be affected. The image in your post is absolutely gorgeous.

Sorry to hear you were under the weather. Dizzy isn’t fun.

You have had rather a lot on your plate, some of it not very palatable! Glad you are on the mend. Did you have to arrange all the energy assessments yourself? We have had a few Government supported initiatives to help people improve the energy efficiency of their home. We would have qualified for support from these initiatives but silly us had gone ahead and done everything required before the Government even thought of giving a helping hand.

    • The utilities sponsor these programs and pay for the bulk of the services. Where I work there are rental spaces and one is for an energy business that does these improvements. They arranged everything and all I had to do was sign the check. 🙂

There are other programs with government incentives and tax breaks such as solar energy equipment which also has tax credits and the requirement that the electrical utilities have to buy your excess from you should you create more than you need. It’s a shame you missed out on the government assistance.

I changed thermostats about a year ago — from who-knows-what to digital — and lo and behold, it did reduce my enery bill by about 15%. It does a much better job of keeping a constant temperature, and I don’t notice swings from too cold to too hot any more.

I hope your internal “swings” are over, now. That sort of illness certainly can feel like an ambush — that’s a perfect description. Still, the photo’s a fine one. I especially like the delicate cross-hatching in the clouds, and the pairing of the larger and smaller trees.

    • We do the bulk of our heating with wood. One part of the house uses the oil furnace, but I had already installed a programmable thermostat a few years ago for there. No doubt the new ones will be more efficient. Most are more of an investment for a future owner as we most likely will not use them as long as I can haul the firewood into the house.

Yup, the internals are firing on all cylinders again, thanks. But I am hesitant to eat some of the things I ate that day. Seeing this sky definitely aided with the recovery.

  9. Nice, subtle, color which I’m guessing didn’t last all that long. You should be commended for being out with the camera on the morning following your illness. You’re made of stronger stuff than I! D

    • No, it only lasted a few minutes. I watched it develop and it sort of popped quickly and then just as quickly faded. Most of the time, I figure I’d rather be uncomfortable doing something I like rather than just lying around feeling miserable. And since it was only for a short time I was able to be out there.
