Well…a few words. This is a closeup of the cascade you saw a few days back of Murphy Falls in Dean Brook. It is now frozen solid or was as of this past weekend. Two days of 40° might have thawed it a little.

The earthiness of the water is appealing to me. It’s a reminder that water lives in relationship with the ground over which it flows.

All is in harmony in nature whether in peace or in turmoil. Some of that earthiness is from within and without the water too. Tannins from nearby trees find their way into the water adding color and nutrients.

The water looks as if it’s made of fine strands of silver. Like silver wool. And, there are those tannins, once again. Beautiful, left/right, composition – lots of movement. Like it very well. D

The silvery quality of the water made me consider a monochrome conversion to add highlight to them, but I think the color contrasts nicely and adds more attention to them as a result.
This little waterfall has so many points of interest, so many angles of view, and so much wonderful motion and sound- sound which I will share on my next opportunity.

I like the extra launch angle of the spray in a couple of places. Nice parabolas.

The main attraction, for me, is that one spray at the top, but there are several nice rooster tails that I wanted to share in the image. So much going on here.

I really like the sketch quality to the foreground – bottom of the falls as the water becomes horizontal . Very satisfying image Steve.

I, too, think the streaks of tan and brown in the flowing water make the picture.

Hence the lack of monochrome conversion. It looks OK in B&W, but much better in color.

2 days ago I went to Lake Michigan with my friend to see what it was up to. Huge waves were crashing against a see wall, and them spray would shoot up 10′ into the air. BOOM! SPRAAAY! It was pretty great. 🙂 But we mostly don’t have streams and waterfalls like this, and there is something needful about them, don’t you think?

What we experience at the woodland streams, cascade and waterfalls is most often much more peaceful than what we find at the ocean’s edge. I would love to live by the ocean or one of the great lakes, but I am quite happy with what I have right here. 🙂
