I drove around to a few locations at the north end of the Quabbin Valley this morning and finally settled in this spot which I’ve shot from in autumn. The sun never rises southerly enough to really light up the reservoir at dawn, but does give some nice color to the south.
The other day I mentioned that WP no longer tells me what number post I have just published, but I can look at all posts and that tells me that this is number 620 since inception.
Nice blue tones.

I like all the subtle gradation of color in the bands that run across the photograph.

Blue and red aren’t exactly complementary, but it is a combination that I like.

Really nice. A subtle study in pastel. Our new place is nestled into the woods. We can see a bit of sky to the southeast but our view of sunset is obscured by trees. Looks like I’ll have to search for some better vantage points … you seem to have a limitless number. D

There are quite a few views here, but I am sure you will discover many around your new home.

Thanks, I.K. This valley is often bathed in blue hues with bits of fog capturing the light.

Just beautiful with the graduations of layers. Actually an interesting photo with all the layers having a different hue.

Thanks, Yvonne. There is a lot to see, although I did try to simplify the composition.

If I ignore that slight tinge of pink, I can say 620 is a blue..ty. Otherwise, I will just say 620 is a beauty.

Oh, I may use “blue-ty” for this someday. Thanks, Ann.

I especially liked the largest view, as the green of the trees became more obvious. My favorite detail is the thin cloud line paralleling the ridge. It’s so delicate.

Thanks for clicking through to the large view, Linda. Landscapes should be seen large or at least most. I agree about the cloud. I think it adds a little interest without demanding all the attention.

Lovely colors and soft lines. 620? Way more than I’ve posted!

No quibble with the Quabbin blues! I love how I can just pick out the trees in silhouette.

Thanks, Melissa. I was lucky that the light was not too far from manageable so there was some detail retained in the shadows.

I thought of you this morning, as I bundled myself up and went for a dawn walk around the neighborhood. Several ashes have died-no great loss, really-so we’ve had an influx of woodpeckers. They were calling as I walked.

I especially enjoy the sound of a woodpecker, the larger and louder the better, when in a deep forest. The booming off an ancient dead tree is a thrill to hear.
