Well, if truth-in-advertising applies then I have to disclose that this isn’t a cold moon. But that is what the December full moon is known as so who am I to change that. It was at least in the 40° range and possibly 50° and once again there was fog in the air.
Most of you probably have heard that a full moon on Christmas day is a rare occurrence. I was lucky to get this and did a couple more on Christmas night from the foot of my driveway. It was pretty cloudy and I didn’t expect to see it at all, but for a moment seek beat out hide and I got to see it one more time.
While I had the chance, I slipped on the 300 with the 1.4 teleconverter to get a shot of the moon between those clouds.
Even with the 300 and 1.4 TC (420), this is still a strong crop.

I like those. We are on alert for a winter storm with a few inches of snow, up to .5″ of ice, 2″ of sleet, and 40 mph wind gusts. Welcome back winter.

Two days on now, I guess you are done with the storm. Ours was not all that big a deal although the local authorities did try to prepare for the worst. Driving was not terribly difficult but by the time I got home the inch or so of snow was packed solid by sleet and I’ll have to wait until it warms up tomorrow to clean it up.

I used the blower to clear the snow and sleet mix off the 1″ of icy crust on the driveway. The crust will have to melt on its own.

Thanks, Yvonne. I am enjoying my Zeiss 50mm lens’ ability to create clean starbursts. At some point I think I may be overdoing it but for now it’s fun.

I think the that marvelous Zeiss is something great.Wish that I had one but on second thought I just wish for a prime lens that produces much sharper pics.

It certainly wasn’t a cold moon here. It was beautifully clear and lovely to see. Hopefully I will be around to see the next Christmas full moon in 2034. 🙂

Yeah, I’ll be 86 if I am lucky enough (all my life I’ve believed I’d see 85, so that may be pushing it, I hope not). Glad you had such a nice view.

The warm-toned circular glow in the midst of all that gray makes for quite an effect.in the first photograph.

I vacillated between liking and disliking it as it is so different from how I saw things (there was a glow but not as colorful to my vision). But that is how the camera saw it and I decided to go with it.

We’ve been spoiled, until now, with weather that has reminded us of early spring or late fall. Tonight and tomorrow promise to bring us to our senses. I’ve got no tractors anymore with which to work … a new snowblower will have to suffice. I’ve got my fingers crossed and my boots dried and warmed. D

Yeah, the change in weather is a gut check. But warmer weather, so to speak, will return for a few days.
Will you be getting a small consumer yard tractor? It will be good for the rocks that New England farms grow in fields for walls to be built.

As I mentioned to Yvonne above, I enjoy shooting with the lens that created the starburst street light and, even better, I only had to walk to the end of my driveway to do it.
I’d say it was the moon starting it as the street light was lit earlier so the moon came along and made the challenge.

I love all these captures and each are of a different mood. The first one has a magical, holiday feel to it and the fog below the mountain is fantastic. Love the moon and lamppost along with that starburst. The fact that you took it right out your front door is brilliant! And of course, the moody black and white photo has to be my favorite.

Thank you, I.K. The first one took a little getting used to for me as it is a little beyond the expected but I’m over that now and like it a lot. Glad you do too. I knew what to expect from the other two and wasn’t disappointed. I contemplated converting the second to black and white but decided the green stands out so left it alone.

Here I am playing catch-up..these are wonderful. I really like the one with just the moon, and the one from your driveway was fun with the light rays coming off the street light.

I am hoping to add a much longer lens to my kit so I can capture shots of the full moon, or crescents, without having to do crops. I really enjoy seeing the detailed texture of the surface along its circumference.
I’ve become quite enamored with starbursts…maybe it shows? 🙂
