10.11.2015 North Quabbin Shoreline

Just a little scenery that caught my eye as I was driving through New Salem before sunrise yesterday.  The light reflecting from the bright overhead sky gave the water a silvery blue  feel that I thought set off the autumn color pleasingly.

It’s a restful image. I like the subdued sky and water, but I’m especially fond of the way the ripples separate the trees on the bank from their reflected image. And, I like the brightness of the rippled water as much as I do the trees: although a few of those trees fairly glow, despite the absence of bright sunlight.

    • I was lucky to catch this…don’t underestimate the value of peripheral vision…as I past by here. Once I was set up, I watched the ripples move across the water and made a few exposures with them in different configurations…this being the better of the bunch.
As far as the glow, there was a pre-sunrise quality that stopped me on my way elsewhere.

Really nice. You are beginning to see color in the trees. They are still mostly green here. It will change quickly in the next two weeks.

  3. I was also going to use the word subdued but I see I’ve been preempted. You speak of a bright sky, but my impression was of one that was subdued, although perhaps it was just the early hour at which you took the picture that gave me that impression.

That blue shimmer on the water really unifies the image and makes it work in a way that I don’t think it would with just the blue sky above and below. Beautiful shot!

    • I agree, Jackson. After shooting this, I visited a nearby location and then drove by here on the way back. The sky was blue at that point and the light and contrast were much less pleasing. Thanks.

  7. So serene and still – makes me miss my days in the northeast during our beautiful “foliage season.”

  8. Thanks, Carol. I don’t think that I could ever move from New England and our wonderful seasonal changes.
