I have been thinking about shooting a sunrise at Atkins Reservoir in North Amherst for a while. This is about the best time of year in terms of where it rises. Slowly it will return to the east, here we are looking southeast, and the foreground will grow shorter causing more to be in shadow.
I was hoping for a little open water in the ice and snow for some reflection, but no luck there. I am still reasonably happy with the start to February.
Now to watch me some football.

Some people aren’t aware that the sunrise and sunset positions change through the year. Your image is well-timed.

I would expect most landscape photographers to be aware. I mentioned The Photographer’s Ephemeris as a great resource.

I’m glad you got some relatively clear sky (even if interrupted by broken clouds) ahead of this next storm system. This is a very pretty picture and gives me hope that spring may well be just around the corner. I wanted you to know that I gave it some pretty thorough consideration and put in an order today for a Tamrac Expedition 7x (I think this is one size smaller than the one you’ve got). I really wanted to give Lowepro a try (I’ve got one one of their very small bags) but just couldn’t find anything that I liked. I almost went for the Rover Pro line but didn’t like its modular design. So, we’ll see … it’s Tamrac once again … I hope the zippers on the Expedition perform better than the ones on that Evolution pack which is now trash.

The funny thing about broken clouds is how they join together, no doubt by perspective only, to close up the horizon. This started with a chance for a nice sunrise, possibly with a sun pillar, but that did not materialize.
All I can say is that I have had no zipper problems with my Tamrac. Best of luck.

35 years of driving around looking for images is paying off, Melissa. 🙂 Actually, it is even more as before I became interested in photography, I always liked to drive around, since high school in the mid-sixties, just to see things. My job involves going to peoples’ homes in the surrounding towns, so I get to visit a lot of roads that I might not otherwise in the course of a day.

You may not have gotten your water reflection, but that’s a nice, golden wash on the trees. I’m really taken wth the way they pick up the color from the sky.

I was really pleased to capture that glow, Linda. There was just a short time that the sun was able to hit those trees before it got to the horizon, from my perspective, and rose behind the clouds. I do wish I had been able to find something for the foreground, but maybe next time. There are a few fox tracks, but I don’t think they are helping much.

Love those sky colors. Beautiful shot. I hope the team you were rooting for was the Patriots. They won the Super-duper, I believe. I don’t watch football- never liked the sport. But I can understand the fascination and enjoyment.

Yes, I am a Patriots fan. So I am happy with the result. I can appreciate that not everyone cares for sports, but if I am going to sit in front of the television, I’d rather that than some of the awful stuff that is presented for entertainment these days.
