So I repeat myself a lot…that has been mentioned here before, both saying the same thing over and over and over … 🙂 and revisiting favorite spots. This post has three images from the same part of the Poor Farm Swamp along the Amherst Railtrail. I think you will recognize the beaver lodge and the trees that are beside it.
This image was here a few days ago. I hope you are not bored with its sudden reappearance. 🙂
The point is not to show it off again…although I do like it a lot, but to give examples of why we should not think we are done with any subject as I hope my last post illustrated also.
Last year, I was there just after sunrise and got this nice little atmospheric scene with a Canada Goose floating by.
And on another foggy morning this past Sunday I framed the sun as I had the moon between the trees for what I felt was a good composition.
Of course, as you can see from the one snag that seems to be migrating around the frame, my position has been varied but the basic idea of using the subject over and over remains the same. I think it is a solid strategy….although it also allows me to save on gas with it being only 3 miles or so from my home. 🙂

Steve: I may be repeating myself, but these are excellent images.
Each gives such a different feeling. It reminds me of the work of some of the Impressionist painters who would paint the same subject under different lighting conditions.
A great lesson in art/photography.

I think the addition on the goose and the water patterns created by the bird’s motion make this a stand out for me. Number 2 has more layering and depth and more for the eye to explore. Eye-Canada-y, no less.

It’s hard to pick a favorite when you’ve given birth to them all. 🙂 But I agree, Andrew, that the scene with goose is more dynamic. There’s inferred motion, light and shapes along with a little romantic fog mixed in. Care to dance? 🙂

I hate to be a copy cat but the middle photo or second one- which ever the perspective is by far the best one even though I generally say that I like the moodiness of B&W. The pic in color is vibrant and the addition of the goose makes it perfect. In fact, the goose makes this is a well-done photo. 🙂

Yes, more or less- not exactly. 🙂 I was trying to be witty but I am no match for you, Andrew, and Rod. I’ve never met anyone in “real life” that is as witty as you three guys. I was trying to get across that the goose was cooked but not meaning within that sentence to imply that it is you. 🙂 It really is an excellent shot with the additon of the goose. Maybe I should have written that the addition of the lone goose is a rare capture in the swamp which made for a “well done” photo.
One final thought: You are a “rare bird” or (is a rareity) 🙂 as far as blogging and photographing is concerned. Extremely nice and thoughtful. And “your goose is never cooked” as far I’m concerned. 🙂

I find myself doing the same thing a lot — trying out different compositions. Sometimes it takes some soaking in after editing for me to really decide which one works the best. Very nice images Steve.

I believe the gods of photography will give you a dispensation for not having stood in quite the same place each time. Emerson also chimes in with “Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” Ans then there’s always the adage that “Variety is the spice of life,” or is it the spouse?
You’re fortunate to have so scenic a place just three miles away.

I’ve been on hiatus for awhile, so I haven’t seen any of these pics. Not a yawn in sight; they’re wonderful. Hard to pick a favorite, although I do swim with the crowd and vote for #2 Goose, cooked or otherwise. The third pic seems mournful and stark, which is why b/w is so effective.
I support you in saving gas and only schlepping three miles for these shots – lucky duck (or goose) to have such a place so nearby. Good to see your posts again (not that you ever left)……….cheerio!
