Firstly, I have always called this area in Acadia Otter Cliffs even though the actual cliffs are a distance behind me here. Recently I asked if there was an actual name for it on the Friends of Acadia Facebook page and was told The Ledges so I stand corrected on all past gaffs. 🙂
In October of 2010 Mary Beth and I visited our friends in Millinocket, Northern Maine and then had just one day in Acadia. It was stormy and rained off and on. I had some time on The Ledges before the rain came and was able to shoot a series of images of the crashing waves. For a brief moment the sun shone through a very small opening in the clouds lending just a touch of morning pink to the clouds and surf. Here is one of those images. We are planning another October visit to Acadia and I am hoping for more drama than I saw in June. Wish me luck. 🙂

Very fine indeed. The light is beautiful and the movement of the water against the immovable rocks pulls me into the place. October should be wonderful.

Steve you just do not take a bad photo. I like this one a lot. The breaking waves on the rocks with the pink tinged clouds makes this a splendid photograph.

I have only been to Acadia once, during July and it was just a “stopover” on the way up to photograph puffins. Boy, your great image makes me want to make a trip just to explore the coastline further. Really nice. This shot, combined with others I have seen from Acadia on the coast really make me want to get back sooner rather than later.
