06.05.2011 Hop Brook Cascades and Waterfall at Holland Glen part one

I’m dividing this into two parts so I don’t put you to sleep.

As I mentioned before, I like to revisit many spots here in Western Massachusetts.  Actually, I hardly go anywhere else.   This is part of the Metacomet-Monadnock trail, maintained by the Appalachian Mountain Club, that runs from Connecticut to New Hampshire and there are many great locations along the trail.  Holland Glen is my favorite.

Please click the image for a larger view.

It starts in a gap along Route 9 in Belchertown. And as the trail climbs you can see and hear Hop Brook to the right.Leaving the trail, one can enjoy many cascades that vary in their appearance with the seasonal change in flow.

Farther along the trail, we need to cross Hop Brook to continue.

Here we’ll break for part two.
