5.31.10 Ganoderma lucidum

While looking for some more water images this morning, I came across a colony of wonderful Reishi fungus (Ganoderma lucidum).  They are lovely shiny bracket or polypore fungi and are believed to have beneficial medicinal qualities. While developing they have a very sticky surface and objects like the leaf stuck to the lower right fungus are permanently embedded.

Both Ganoderma tsugae and lucidum are called reishi.  Here’s a closeup of one that has a nice little fold in the edge and a nice look at the lovely coloration.
